Unusual Tales - Journey To Paradise

"Unusual Tales", a series presenting Steve Ditko's comics from 1957 to 1959 that are in the public domain.

"Journey To Paradise" is a 5-page story from Charlton's OUT OF THIS WORLD #7 [1958], the story of a teacher named Adam Marsh who doesn't believe in the biblical story of Eden but still longs for a simpler time that the paradise of the story represents.  Then he happens upon a time machine built by a dying inventor.  Hm, guy named Adam, longs for an Eden he doesn't believe in, time machine... wonder where that's going.

A bit of a text heavy story, but some interesting bits of business in the text.  The story gives Ditko a wide variety of things to draw, and he he excels at them all.  The old inventor is especially well rendered.

  1. Oh wow- I love anachronistic stories like this, where the future and past can be so construed. I especially love when dogmatic mythology can be explored for creative fare.
Ditko was tops with this one.
