Upcoming Ditko - Unpublished Hulk/Torch story

Well, this one is out of nowhere. Harris did some work for Marvel in the early 1980s, and around 1990, so it could be from either of those eras [see comments, apparently it's from around 1981, intended for MARVEL TEAM-UP. And there's apparently a JCH/Ditko Moon Knight story from the same era that never saw print as well]. Presumably it was plotted and penciled a while back, and Kesel is doing a new script. Be interesting to see who the inker is. Kesel would be a good choice, don't think he ever inked Ditko and he's pretty good with a brush.

By the way, not Ditko, but another recent "Marvel Vault" special had a really entertaining Doctor Strange story by Roger Stern and Neil Vokes that was begun about a decade back for Stern's MARVEL UNIVERSE series.

HUMAN TORCH & HULK: FROM THE MARVEL VAULT #1

From the depths of the Marvel Vault comes a long-lost issue from Mighty Marvel mainstay Steve Ditko!

"Face front, fans! This is Johnny Storm–the high-flying HUMAN TORCH–with a tale so taut with tension and terror it couldn’t be told until today! When that twisted genius, the Wizard, gains the power of the moon’s magnetism, he becomes more dangerous than Magneto! Add in that bull-headed behemoth, the irrational HULK, and it’s up to Yours Truly to save the day! Again! Don’t miss this page-turning epic of betrayal, brute force, and blazing heroics as only mighty Marvel (and me!) can tell it!"

  1. It's from 1981, scheduled originally for Marvel Team-Up, the first work Harris did for Marvel. It's mentioned in an article about upcoming issues in an issue of The Comic Reader as seen in this post:

This is very cool. Somewhere in storage, I have photocopies of Steve's pencils for this entire story. If I recall, it has to do with the Wingless Wizard taking over a research lab to planning some of his usual nastiness with Bruce Banner on the scene and Johnny Storm representing Reed Richards' and the FF's interests. It includes the usual Ditko greatness.

  3. Thanks for the additional info, Jack. Hopefully Marvel will run at least a few samples of Ditko's pencils in the published book to compare with the inked version. If not, and you ever dig your copy out of storage, I'd love to see a sample.

Any chance you also have a copy of the Moon Knight story mentioned in the fanzine article?

  4. Great news. It would also be great if Robin Snyder or someone could print those Ditko Flash Gordon stories. Jack C. Harris (what does the "C" stand for, anyway)is a good solid writer so it should be interesting. It'll be the first time in a decade that I'll have read a Hulk story.
